Welcome to my blog! I'm Rania Laksita. I’ve always have a huge interest in art and craft as well as fashion since I was little. For me, fashion is more than dressing up with high-end clothes, fashion is a form of art, an expression of identity, culture, and emotion. From a young age, I have had a great interest in garment-making and watching designer collections runways on television. I’ve made a lot of DIY crafts and paint several watercolor paintings during my leisure time and in 6th grade I tried hand-sewing for the first time. That’s when I started learning to make my own wardrobe. I am an art and design student in DMUIC and next year I will be taking fashion design as my major. This blog will be my digital archive as well as diaries of my journey in studying digital arts.

The iconic revenge dress wore by Princess Diana became one of my first inspiration that gets me into the world of fashion. It’s fascinating to see how a person can utilize clothing as their canvas and make people who wear it feel powerful and confident in it. Art doesn’t only appear in museums, but could also be in the form of the clothing that we wear. The black off-the-shoulder dress by Christina Stambolian, a greek designer became one of princess Diana most famous look. The flattering asymmetrical pleated bodice with dropped chiffon on the waist tells bigger story than what it shows. After her husband, Prince Charles admitted to being unfaithful to Diana on an interview, that doesn't stop her to show herself in public. Amidst busy public talk about the breakdown of the royal's marriage, Princess Diana decided to attend dinner at the Serpentine Gallery with full confidence in her iconic 'revenge dress', as Ms. Stambolian stated 'She chose not to play the scene like Odette, innocent in white. She was clearly angry. She played it like Odile in black. She wore bright red nail enamel, which we had never seen her do before. She was saying: ‘Let’s be wicked tonight.' (mediabest, 2023) What Lady Diana couldn’t express verbally, she expressed through her clothes. The revenge dress worn by Princess Diana remain iconic even after 27 years have passed. Sidonie stated ‘In the revenge dress not only do we have the birth of a new woman, we have the birth of an icon for women all over the world. It was a deeply empowering moment.’ (mediabest, 2023) Fashion hold bigger impact than what we imagine.

In 2019, Dolce & Gabbana stage an epic ancient greek inspired collection of 125 looks in the heart of Sicily. 'First showcased in the Valle dei Templi in Dolce’s native Sicily, the collection draws on the goddesses of ancient Greek and Roman mythology, wherein each piece is named after a divine being and designed in reference to her beauty and patronage.' (Leong, 2019) Every piece has its own unique essence of beadings, sequins, fringe and embroidery in silk fabric paired with the jewellery from Sciacca that showcase the silhouette of ancient greek goddess. Watching this remarkable runway show from my television open my eyes to fashion couture. It's one of the most inspiring works that encouraged me to explore and research deeper about the fashion industry. The creativity and complexity it took for a sketch to be worn out on the runways is what attracts me the most to fashion design. The runway was held in the world-famous 'valley of the temple' known as one of the most significant testimonies of Greek culture and art. The gold-accent look collection by Dolce & Gabnana shine perfectly with the sand-colored columns in the temple. This breathtaking couture collection will forever be one of Dolce & Gabbana's best creation.
