To start my project, I'm going to search for the images that I'm going to use. I'm using copy right-free image website to search the images. Once i get the images, I'm going to import the images to pixlr editor by 'create new' press 'print' select the a4 size paper and press 'create'. I decided to change the canvas layout into landscape to look like a postcard, by clicking 'image', 'canvas rotation'.
Before inserting the image to the main layer, I first need to create the tittle of the advert on different canvas. I clicked the text icon to insert text and type 'BALI'. I picked a bold font and chose color then I added yellow outline to the text so it would highlight the letter better. I also add a sub-tittle 'greetings from' and 'the land of sunshine'. I then download the image with transparent background.
Next, I create my main canvas and then I insert the image by clicking 'file', 'open image' and select the images i wanted to include. I then adjust the brightness, contrast, exposure, etc to have a vintage look. I also add vignette filter to the main image that I will use as the background. To look more retro, I add a vintage texture that I have downloaded beforehand and choose 'screen' on blend mode.
Once I like how the background look, I add the text that I made before, by pressing the 'add layer' on the bottom right side of the screen and click 'image'. Then to take out the white border inside the text I press 'wand select', 'new selection' then clicked the white border on the first letter then press 'add to selection' and clicked the white border on the rest of the letter. Then I remove it by dragging it outside the frame.
To add picture to the inside of the letter, I insert the image that I wanted to the frame and put it under the text layer, then I arrange it to fit inside the letter. And to only have the picture inside the letter I press 'lasso select', 'polygon' type, and 'new selection' mode, then I trace the out the entire image and click 'remove from selection' mode, and trace the the border of the letter. To remove the unwanted piece, I drag the selected image outside the frame.
Once I have done repeating it to the rest of the letter, I add my tagline text and 'book now!' text on the bottom centre of the advert. I picked white color for the tagline and add shadow underneath on the style tool. And for the text underneath I choose to add green background on the 'book now!' text.
To finish off, i add the logo that I have made on tailor brands to the advert. I also add my slogan 'your gateway to enchanting adventure' under the logo to show that its a travel agent's advertisement. I decide to put the logo on the right upper-corner of the screen, and to export the design to png, I clicked 'save' icon and press 'png' and 'download'.
This is my final piece of the travel advertisement I made for my advert project on pixlr editor.
I face quite a lot of difficulties during the process of creating this advertisement on a new software (pixlr)
that I never use before. I already have a vision on my mind on how I want my advert to be, but its hard to make it into reality using pixlr, so I watched several YouTube videos on tutorial using pixlr for beginner. But overall, I quite enjoy making this project. If I have more time I would watch more videos to find out on how I could customize my text to have a warp effect and add more complex border on the text to recreate a retro font. But apart from that, I think that I have made the advert just how I planned before, I have add image of balinese cultures to the inside of the letter and add a brief promotional text and use bold font so it will popped out more. I also think that the final advertisement could reached the targeted audience which is gen x with my design that's inspired by retro travel postcard which I hope could brings nostalgic feeling to the audience when looking at my advertisement.
Good work her on the technical details and on the reflection. The advert works well and you have a clear message
