Project Sign off: Berkain

    Today my project have been successfully signed off by Zoe, which can be viewed here. Before going deeper on research, I found myself getting immersed with Wilsen Willim's 'Yang hancur dan kembali: Project restore' collection. Through this project, Willim took an old Sumatra Batik from 1960 to restore and preserve it in his 15 collection pieces. Preserving wastra through modern technique, Willim implement the Japanese repair technique 'Kintsugi' on ready to wear batik pieces for his collection in Senayan City's Fashion Nation 2023. 

    These Japanese technique 'Kintsugi' are resemble by the gold beading and embroidery he sewed on the batik lawas pieces. The gold accent creates interesting texture and complexity to the pieces. “In fact, every tear, hole, or imperfection in a batik cloth contains many stories. These fabrics have been useful and beautify their wearers for a long time, with the beading and embroidery accents, this actually strengthens and adds to the beauty of the story of ancient batik," (Willim, 2023). The batik integration on Willim's collection are beautifully constructed and tells an inspiring message with its inspiration of Kintsugi art. In my major project, I would like to be able to express the message that I wanted to tell clearly through my design.
