Sequential Images: Ideas & Research
Looking at my final pieces from the class sequential picture, i thought of creating another project with my own concept. I always enjoy looking at greenery in every chance i have. Looking at the tree branches as it move with the wind, easily calm my mind. Claude Monet have a huge series of nature painting that he has created, several of these painting inspired me to come up with a concept for my next project.
Garden Path at Giverny (1902) Claude Monet
The Water-lily Pond (1899) Claude Monet
Nature has became one of the source of inspirations for many people. It appears that Claude Monet also thought the same, just as Monet stated "My garden is my most beautiful masterpiece" (Budd, 2019). Giverny has became Monet's home and sanctuary. Monet's beautiful garden has successfully contributed in creating Monet's most famous artwork which are the series of his water-lilies painting and the garden path at Giverny. Several improvements that he did to his water garden which included the Japanese-style wooden bridge that was built above the pond that he filled with water lilies, formed the beginning of later become Monet's last great artwork. It amazes me so much that a great Artist like Monet could produce 12 painting from only one scenery. Each and every piece that he has created has its own unique point and doesn't share any similar style with the others. This teaches me that beauty can be seen in every point of view. “Every day I discover more and more beautiful things. It’s enough to drive one mad. I have such a desire to do everything, my head is bursting with it.” (Budd, 2019).
Looking at Claude Monet's water-garden painting inspired me to create my sequential images project to capture the birth of nature's beauty. I would like to create compilation of images that shows everything, whether it's small or big, comes from Mother Nature and will eventually come back to where it comes from. These ideas that I came up with is visualized through the story board shown below. I planned to shoot these images in the outdoor garden behind my room so I could shoot with natural light. I will use my iPhone 13 camera to shoot, I will also place my phone in a fixed position using a tripod to have fixed frame.
when sketching up my ideas, the concept reminds me of a stop motion video of blooming flowers. Here is the example of a stop motion video that uses flowers as the prop. Stop motion videos are sequential images that have much more frame that capture every small movement to create a smooth transition which then will be compile into a form of video. So, I tend to think that making a sequential images is pretty similar with creating a stop motion videos, where the only difference is in the final form of the projects, stop motion is in a video form while sequential images stays as a compilation of pictures.
The final result of my sequential images and the review as well as the reflection of my experience during the process of making this project will be posted on my next blog.
