 Concept Planning

For my individual advert project, I'm thinking of creating an advert of Canva, a popular editing website for students. I choose this as my idea because for me personally, Canva has been a huge help during school, in turning my vision into a creative digital media. Canva is popular for its various helpful tools, but i still found that some people still haven't heard of Canva. This is my main reason for creating an advert to let more people to be familiar with this helpful editing website. 

As i think more about this concept for my advert project, another idea came up to me. I think an advert about the dangerous impact of fast fashion awareness will be a good concept for an advert. As the textile industry grown, and fashion trends have spread globally, fast-fashion has become a serious problem. Not just about the environmental damage but the sustainability of textile industry in the future also need to be considered. 

The topic of fast-fashion awareness with the tagline ideas:

- over-consumption = extinction  ( 'i don't have any cloth to wear' or 'cloth are not disposable item'  or 'washing machine are built for a reason')

- environmental damage from fast-fashion waste

- underpaid industry worker and poor working environment ('made by starving children')

By creating this advertisement, my aim is to raise the awareness of the damage and impact that fast fashion has on various aspects.

After asking Zoe about her opinion on my advert ideas, she suggested that it would be better if I can create new advert that not many people have made yet, so I thought of making an travel advertisement of my home country. I then start to do research to know if this would be a great concept ideas for my advert project. 

Data Research

According to the two graph below, in 2024 and 2023 the top destinations for UK travelers are mostly Europe countries with a small percentage of US. The reason for the popularity of Europe countries to be the top list of Britons' vacation destination is because it's convenience and shorter flight time.

This conclude that Asian countries have never been in UK traveler's destination list they want to visit. Apart from that, I think that Asia have a lot of beautiful tourist attraction with unique culture to explore which is why I wanted to create a Bali travel advertisement to increase people's interest in exploring Asia especially Indonesia for their next vacation. 

Advert Design Research

Travel advertisement mostly use colorful and bold font on their design to draw audience's attention. I really like these 3 ads below that use a majority of blue and green color palette, I think it gave a warm summer feelings with the color of  beaches and trees. I also agree that bold font will be effective to make the advertisement stands out.

While scrolling through Pinterest, I also found that vintage postcard design will be really cute for travel advertisements. I think that the greyscale color used gave it a really classic and nostalgic feeling.

After getting a few research on my topic and gather some design ideas of travel advertisement, i started to plan the advertisement that i would like to create. I love the vintage postcard theme, so i would like to put it on my final advert. I'm going to search for a copyright-free image of vintage Bali postcard in a vintage color setting with low saturation and dark color scheme. I want to have Bali's famous tourist attraction on the picture with some Balinese's unique culture on the frame. On the top corner of the advert i will add my travel company logo with the company's tagline underneath.  I will also add text like 'greetings from Bali, the land of sunshine' with retro font to look like on postcards. And on the bottom of the advert, i will add a small rectangle with 'book now' text.
