Design Sketches Development and Abbey Park Observation Trip

Continuing from my first design sketch, in week five I made two other 4-design sketches. The first design collection took inspiration from tree bark texture and basket weaving. The silhouette in this collection are round or puffy with cargo style parachute that has a dramatic gathering on the side. Similar to the previous sketch, I also added a lot of pockets in which some of it has a weaving pattern on the pocket flap. This collection also has bubble skirt that is paired with drop-waist corset and chest-length green military jacket. The tree bark texture is incorporated in the corset and the men short pants.

For the third design sketch, it is inspired mostly by the leave veins impression made by cording technique. This collection still use puffy silhouette like the other two design sketches that are shown in the maxi bubble skirt and the parachute pants. For the menswear, I design a utility jumpsuit accessorize with cording technique to create the leaf veins impression and tactical belt on the waist. For the other men, I choose a casual look with hoodie jacket and knee-length pants.

Now for the women, both of the design doesn't connected or related to one another which I think will not be the best design for my collection. the first women design is a halter top with 'clown ruffle' paired with maxi bubble skirt and the other women design is a jacket dress with hoodie and paired with parachute leg accessories. Comparing this design sketch with the other two sketches, I think this collection doesn't follow the initial theme and concept of my collection because each design have their own different silhouette and concept. I also think that the colour palette is not balance distributed throughout all the design which mainly only focuses on the khaki and brown color.

Abbey Park Observation Trip

To get more ideas of the nature's texture I wanted to incorporate into my design, I went to Abbey park to observe the texture and shapes of objects I saw there. I was interested in the tree bark texture I saw from a huge tree near the river. It doesn't have a straight rough texture like most tree bark I saw, but it is kind of branchy and splitted. I also observe the veins of a maple leaf that I planned to recreate using cording technique. Another texture I observed are the sharp blades of grass and the rocks covered with moss.

In week, I will start to make an experimentation sample of the texture I wanted to make by trying different manipulation technique. I will also start to make the garment prototype with calico to develop it based on my collection design.
