Reflection

After completing my portfolio of the AP 1 project, reflecting back there are several improvements and also some weakness I noticed from my previous portfolio. Last term, for digital art my project is to create a fashion collection that will be presented as a digital portfolio. Because I don't need to make a 3d outcome, I can fully focus on making the collection design and the portfolio. I notice that my last term collection was much detailed and show that there are a lot of thought behind it, but for this term collection I feel like the collection design was too vague and doesn't show many unique point. Reflecting back, I'm realize that I was too focus on experimenting with fabric manipulation technique as I was excited about this new topic, and therefore I somehow didn't think too much about the collection design.

Another weakness I notice from my 'Eutierria' portfolio is, due to short timeframe of this project, we only got less than 4 weeks to finish the 2d and 3d outcome as well as the portfolio. Different with last term project, we don't need to create an actual outcome, therefore we can take more time to create the portfolio. Because of the tight deadline, I can't give a maximum effort for the portfolio. If there is more time, I would like to spend more time in perfecting the technical drawing as well as the portfolio layout.

Beside these weaknesses, I notice that my garment-construction skills have improve from my previous project. I have started to sew my own wardrobe since early high school, and I notice that the final outcome of this term project was much neater and well-constructed than my last sewing project. Previously, I didn't give too much thought of the seam inside the garment, because I thought that only the front piece matters. But in this project, I really took my time in making a neat finished-seam both on the inside and outside. Although it was really time-consuming, but it helps me to practice my mindfulness and neatness.

Another improvement I notice is how I tried to get out of my comfort zone this term by deciding to try a new software. Previously I don't usually think that trying out new things is a great decision especially on major projects. I prefer to use the technique I'm already confident with. But for this term, I decided to give adobe illustration a try, to make the technical drawing. Although I only started to learn using the software a few days before the submission due date, but I was quite satisfied with how well I can utilize the software to draw the technical drawing.
