AI Generated Images:Ideas Generation

Today we get to try using AI image generator to help us came up with ideas for our individual brief. I'm using DeepAI to generate images, by typing the prompt as detail as possible according to how I wanted the image to be, then below preference there are several style that I can choose, and for the image to come up, press 'generate'. 

As this was my first time to generate image using DeepAI, I have trouble to write the prompt how I vision in my head, so it took me quite a while to finally get the image as close as what I have in my vision. Something that I notice from using this software is that, it can't recognize words that are too specific for example 'batik', 'Bali' and it also can't differentiate Indonesia with other Asian countries. Because I can't get batik print or other Indonesian elements into the image, I tried to generate image by focusing mostly on the garment design and other accessories like headpiece and arm piece. Here are several images that I generated using DeepAI.

       Developing Idea

After I have enough generated images, we then move on to choosing one of the images and start develop the ideas based on the AI generated picture. I pick fig. 3 (see fig. 3) to further develop into an Indonesian national costume design. From the image, I decided to include the headpiece, the drapery on one shoulder and the corset into my design. 

First term in Digital Art, I have made a project inspired by the Indonesian fabric heritage, Batik. So for this term art portfolio, I want to still use Indonesia as the inspiration but not focus mainly on Batik as I already done it before. This time I wanted to use Indonesian shadow puppet known as Wayang Kulit as my major inspiration, along with other Indonesian craftsmanship like woven coconut leaf. 

On my design, I kept the drapery on one shoulder, but added another drapery around the opposite bodice. For the skirt, I add a waist accessory with motif from the wayang kulit carvings, I also added another drapery connecting to both side of the hip. Below the accessory is the short-length skirt with batik print on it and the skirt have a long train behind. For the decoration on the back of the figure, I was inspired by a headpiece made from woven coconut leaf that I saw from Shibui magazine. Bali is widely known for the people's creative and unique craftsmanship. Besides silver jewelry and wood carving, Bali is also famous for using coconut leaf for various house decoration and sculpture. Inspired by the weaving from the headpiece, I made the back decoration to have a similar pattern and motif.
