Production week 8: Accessories-making and Beads Embroidering

During week 8, I started to focus on making the accessories to complete my outcome and adding finishing touches to the final garment. I was inspired by a necklace design I saw on instagram, that has 'swirl' motif made entirely from art wire by druzy_daze. I thought that my garment doesn't show Indonesian elements enough, perhaps because there's no accessories and jeweleries that complement the garment, therefore I decided to make the necklace that could present 'baroque' motif and the royal attire of Javanese during pre-colonial era. The 'baroque' pattern is represented from the wire swirl motif.

To make the necklace, I first started by cutting approximately 7 cm of 4 gauge art wire, then bend each wire into a swirl shape. I made the first half of the necklace, and to make sure that the other half is symmetrical, I repeated the process by bending the wire on top of the first half.

Once I had my bended wire, then I hammer each of the wire to give a flat surface and less of the rounded raw wire edge, which I thought makes it look more like an appropriate silver necklace.

Next, after hammering all the pieces, then I connected the separated pieces by wrapping smaller wire around it. I found out that securing the pieces using smaller wire doesn't make it flexible enough to be worn. When I tried to wore it on my neck, it look too stiff and heavy. But considering that the necklace will only be used for the photoshoot, I guess it's not really a big problem.

Once I'm satisfied with the motif of the first piece, next I continue making the other pieces that connect to both side.

I decided to go to charity stores to find jewelries with big stones that I can use in my necklace. I found a pretty bracelet with huge yellow stones that I wanted to use as the main pendent on my necklace. I also used the chain from another necklace to add a decorative hanging details on the front piece.

This is my first idea of combining both jewelries that I bought into my necklace. However for me the necklace under it, has too many pendant and makes it too crowded.

I decided to take off the dangling pendant, and leave the chain to drape in a 'W' shape. I loved how it turned out. The next step is to spray painted it gold to match my collection color palette.

Besides making the necklace, I also decided to add a small beads embroidery details on my corset as it was looking a little too simple. Similar to the necklace, I incorporated baroque pattern that will be covered in red and gold beads. To add a white accent, I added hanging pearls and white beads below the baroque motif. Although I had to re-do it a couple of times, but eventually i was really satisfied with how the beadings turned out.

Now that my 3d outcome was finished, I booked the photography studio to take a photoshoot with the finished garment. I asked my friend to help me do the make up and hair do, and I also asked a friend of mine to take the picture.

Here are some of the pictures taken
