Portfolio: Feedback

Today, we got the chance to share our progress of making the portfolio and getting feedback or suggestion from our friends. I have started constructing my mood board page, and hopefully during the weekend I could finish most of the pages and start to illustrate my final collection line up. Besides portfolio, I have also wanted to change my website layout since last term but I didn't had the chance yet. Therefore, this week I plan to experiment with different layout and color palette to use as my website design.

I think I would like to go with a neutral and minimalist website design, to give a more professional feel to my website. I was thinking of using either white and black color palette or black and red (refer to the image below). The first color palette in my perspective is much more flexible, as it is mostly monochrome color, it gives much freedom and creativity to add color or personality in the elements inside (for example the portfolio cover). Whereas black and red present boldness and 'confidence' to the website, and it is a great color to snatch user's attention. However, if I'm going to use black and red as my website main color, it will be challenging to relates or connect it with my 3 portfolios that has completely different concept.

Fig. 1 Website design ideas

After sharing my thoughts of how I'm planning to change my website design, Marta showed me her website design that is quite similar to what I wanted mine to be. Her website consisted of only 4 main color, black, red, and yellow, she designed her home page with simple font, and then there is a pop of color from her portfolio pages. I really like how simple yet professional Marta's website design is. When I share my concern about my inconsistent website layout and wanted to make it look more professional, Billy suggested me to not go overboard with the 'mainstream' design and color palette, but also give a personal touch or personality to my website, to differentiate my outcome with others. Considering their suggestion, I'm planning to play around with different palette and see which one suits my website the best, this process is going to be recorded on my next post, production: portfolio-making.

  1. Do you have any layout mock-ups to post with this text, to demonstrate visually what you have done so far?

Remember to add the image reference on this post.
