Art Portfolio One: Project Statement

The fashion design project I will be creating will be on the theme earthly delights, exploring deeper in the tactile qualities found in the surrounding of urban green space/park life. I will mimic the appearance and texture of details in nature into a wearable garment by using various textile manipulation techniques for my 3d outcome. The 3d garments that I will create will be from one of my design collection and I will photograph this to add to my final portfolio on my website. I will be incorporating the following 2025 springs-summer trends into my designs; bubble and parachute silhouette, dramatic drapery with a play of ruffle, balloon sleeves, street style-sporty, and romanticizing utility gears with feminine features. I will create 4-6 design collection combining both menswear and womenswear which I intend to illustrate by hand and colorize with watercolour. I will add these to Photoshop to complete my portfolio. These two outcomes will be made within 6 weeks time. By making this project, I aim to improve my garment-making skills including sewing, embroidery, fabric manipulation as well as my drawing and painting skills.

"Merhej used parachutes as the starting point for a collection that worked into themes of freedom and lightness, playing with volume and form through beautifully-cut cotton gabardine and nylon tulle" (Brennan, 2025) With the rise of bubble skirt popularity in the 2025, I would like to incorporate volume and round silhouette but also using parachute or other sporty fabric and giving it a feminine touch for my collection.
